Lagos Fashion Week 2013

Lagos is a dynamic city, increasingly known as a cultural hotspot with the growing presence of Nigerian innovators, designers  and other creatives on the world scene.

Contributing much to the global sphere from its rich culture, Nigerian designers have positioned Lagos as a key player in International fashion.

Recently, GT Bank Lagos Fashion and Design Week showcased designers from Lagos, and other African countries. The designers showed their stunning designs for Spring/Summer 2014 displaying a mix of stylish prints, bright colors, and flattering cuts for both men and women. Here are some of our favorites:

Maki Osakwe

Nigerian designer Maki Osakwe showed her stunning Spring/Summer 2014 collection first at NY Fashion Week and again in Lagos Fashion Week. Her collection, ranging from neutral colors to beautiful blues and emeralds with a splash of crimson red, boasted vibrant prints and soft solids. Her silhouettes were timeless and edgy; I predict she is definitely a designer to watch.

The 15 year old designer of Tumiila, Tumisola Ladega, creates beautiful structured, geometric and feminine pieces. Using classic black and white with a pop of tangerine, her designs are classy, sophisticated and perfect for spring and summer.

Maureen Ikem/ Sunny Rose

Designer Maureen Ikem’s Spring/Summer line was spectacular. Featuring designs in white and red, and a transition into red with an Ankara print in poppy flowers, the line was wearable and classic with a fun modern twist.
