Defining Your Place in Life – What is the Best City For You Now?

Defining Your Place in Life – What is the Best City For You Now?

As we grow and change as women and different circumstances and life experiences shape our lives, the places that we have the urge to live in change. For example, as a child you might envision living on a farm with room and place to play, as you get older maybe the big city stands out as the place to start a life and a career, even still older you may be married with two kids and a husband and the suburbs sound like a nice place to settle down. No matter what we say, who we are dramatically shapes who we are and who we will be.

There’s nothing like the sound of cricket chirping at night and being able to look up and see the stars, big and bright without a hindrance. Such are some of the draws of living in the country. Not to mention there’s room to grow and change, and if you’re into horses, there’s room for those too. As charming and quaint as the countryside can be, it does also have its downfalls. There’s often a lack of people. That may be a good thing but it also means when you’re out of a cup of sugar, there’s not a neighbor close-by to ask for a favor. If you’re craving that new milkshake you just saw in a commercial, is it really worth the 1-hour drive to the nearest destination?

Remember your college days when you wanted to be able to go out and hang out with friends at any time of night? Such is the attraction of the cities that never sleep. This is the perfect place for the always-moving, always-working, busy-bee women out to conquer the world. Soon you meet a man who means the world to you and living in the city focusing on your career seems second to raising a child and building a family.

Then you move to the suburbs. You find a house in a neighborhood close to a good school and make sure the yard is big enough to accommodate not only your kids, but your husband who’s convinced he’s going to have a son that wants nothing more than to play catch with his dad. Sure you miss your friends and the city, but you chat with the neighbors and attend school functions and know that you’ve participated in all life has to offer.

With the growing pressures for women to be powerful and successful, it’s often hard to remember that we are wired a certain way for a reason. Be strong, be resilient but just know that we’re meant to love and nurture too. Listen to your body and your heart and let the experiences of your life take you where you need to go. It’ll be fun.
